Lumos House is a up-and-coming resource for the Chittenden County area of Vermont created by Emily Long and Rachel Whalen. The purpose of Lumos House is to serve our local community and provide support and resources for all families who have experienced the death of a child during pregnancy, infancy, childhood or adulthood.
While currently in a sort of grassroots phase, our priority is for Lumos House to be a light in the darkness for all families after the death of their child(ren). We are growing to become a comprehensive hub of resources, support, and information – including a lending library, in-house therapists, support groups, drop-in hours, information packets, yoga classes, art classes, and so much more. Basically, if community members or providers have a need or a question after the loss of a child, we intend to have, find, or create, if needed, the resource or answer.
As mothers ourselves who have each said good-bye to our beloved daughters, Dorothy (Rachel) and Grace and Lily (Emily), we know just how hard it is to breathe and get up after this unbearable loss – never mind trying to think clearly enough to find support and information or help. How do you even begin to know where to start when your world has crumbled beneath you? Well, we’re doing the work to find and provide support and resources so that you don’t have to.
